2. ON BEYOND FEAR AND HOPE
______________________________________________________

Speaker/writer Margaret Wheatley, reminds us that hope never enters a room without fear at its side. Sometimes when I want to accomplish something, I also think about the possibility of failure. "You can't have one without the other." We see the old systems and ideas dissolve at an increasing rate and so we move into hope to propel us into action - to dream and vision what the creation of a better world would look like. Buddhism teaches me that nothing remains the same, that change is constant and that things don't last forever. So I need to accept that change just the way it is.

The Coach questions . . . how can we do our work if we have no hope that we can succeed?

3. ON A MEMORABLE SPEECH
______________________________________________________

We can turn to the world of politics to hear some masterful speakers who used the one sentence "punch line" to announce the "Big Idea" to their audience. Speaker/author, Chris Witt, shares a few examples in his new book, Real Leaders Don't do PowerPoint.

  • "And so my fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country." (John F.Kennedy)
  • "Let me again assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself." (Franklin Roosevelt)
  • "Believe one thing if nothing else, I did what I thought was right for our country." (Tony Blair)

The Coach asks . . . do you have a worthy idea that people need to hear?

4. ON RELATIONSHIP MARKETING ______________________________________________________

Mass marketing has given way to relationship marketing and emotional branding in the 21st century. Here are some tips for pursuing one to one marketing:

  • Focus on individual consumers and address their needs and wants. Use your email, phone, face to face, and direct marketing.
  • Put relationships with your clients above transactions- this will inspire them to remain loyal and provide you with referrals.
  • "Focus on customer share - not market share." grow your business with each customer. It's easier to keep existing customers than it is to find new ones.

The Coach suggests . . . that you create a buying experience that brings the results the customer wants/needs.

5. THE FIVE THINGS WE CANNOT CHANGE

And the happiness we find by embracing them. Author, David Richo writes a lucid and thought-provoking book which tells us:

  1. Everything changes and ends.
  2. Life is not always fair.
  3. Things do not always go according to plan.
  4. Pain is a part of life.
  5. People are not loving and loyal all the time.
