2. ON THE "SWEET SPOT"
______________________________________________________

Author, Nancy Spears, (Buddha: 9 to 5) reminds us that genuine communication involves finding the “sweet spot” that connects us to others.  All authentic professional speakers learn quickly to listen well and feel the situation from another person’s point of view, communicate with compassion and speak from their highest consciousness. “When we let go of thoughts and preconceived agendas and open up to the desire for pure communication, we begin to truly listen.”  That’s when a speaker is truly authentic and speaks from his/her heart.

The Coach has learned . . . when I really listen, I can see and feel the situation from another person’s point of view, even if I do not agree with them.

3. ON PERSUASION - ART OR SCIENCE?
______________________________________________________

Research indicates a few effective strategies to be more
persuasive. (from Yes!: 50 scientifically Proven Ways to be
Persuasive)

  • Limit the choices you offer – I get frustrated when I am confronted with too many products to choose from
    in the department stores.  Less is more.
  • Request active commitments.  I ask my clients what they can reasonably accomplish before our next meeting.
  • Be honest and build trust – “trust is a critical component to persuasion.”  I admit what I may not be able to assist a client
    with before demonstrating what strengths I have to help resolve
    their challenge/goal.
  • Loss is more persuasive than gain – speakers may tell their audience what they stand to lose if they don’t buy their book/DVDs rather than what they stand to gain from buying their products.

The Coach asks . . . how do you persuade people to move in your
direction?

4. ON SPEAKING WITH SIGNIFICANCE ______________________________________________________

Jim Collins, in his book, From Good to Great, found the most
important ingredient that brought their organizations from good
to great was humility.  They were servant leaders.  Professional
speakers learn quickly to use their talent (gifts and strengths)
to drive their passion for what excites and inspires them
to bring their message(s) to an audience who needs to hear what they
have to say and pays them for it.  When a speaker realizes that he/
she has a calling to contribute something significant, that is the
moment he/she has found his/her “voice in life.”

The Coach asks . . . what do you feel compelled to contribute to
your work, your organization, your family and friends that will
bring you fulfillment?

5. ON HIGH COOOO

  • A file that big? It might be very useful. But now it is gone.

  • Chaos reigns within. Reflect, repent, and reboot. Order shall return.

  • A crash reduces your expensive computer to a simple stone.
  • Yesterday it worked. Today it is not working. Windows is like that.

The Coach a shares recent experience . . . All shortcuts disappeared. Screen. Mind. Both were blank.
